What we’re looking for

We’re looking for people to run a Post Office in cities, towns and villages right across the UK. They need to be:

  • entrepreneurs, who are community focused and keen to make a positive social contribution

  • self-motivated and sales-focused and keen to meet customers’ needs

  • forward thinking and innovative and able to benefit from the extra footfall a Post Office will bring

A Post Office is a great fit in local convenience stores and newsagents.

There are also successful Post Office outlets in places like gift shops, card and stationary shops, petrol stations and cafes. You’ll even find them in pubs, garden centres and libraries.

Some of our branches – Main Post Offices – are large, with dedicated serving positions, but many just need one small counter.

Post Office formats explained

Main Post Office

These branches are for busy areas and may have several thousand customers a week. So the Main format needs enough space for one or more dedicated Post Office counters, and a single counter by the retail till. Main branches offer the widest range of Post Office services.

Local Post Office

We have over 3,500 Local branches where the Post Office is integrated into the retail business with one counter (sometimes two) next to the retail till. A Post Office Local sells all our most popular products and services.

Local Plus

This format offers the same products as a Main Post Office but is designed for a smaller store.

Banking Hubs

A Banking Hub is a shared branch, with Post Office providing banking/bill payments counter services and community bankers helping customers with more complicated transactions e.g. mortgages or loan. A fitted out retail premises will be provided for this opportunity. What is a Banking Hub?

Adverts explained

Franchise opportunity

Add a Post Office franchise to your existing retail business. This will replace the advertised Post Office within your community.

Property and franchise opportunity

Apply for a Post Office with leasehold or freehold premises to purchase, and develop a thriving retail store. Taking on the property is optional and you’d need to negotiate direct.

New opportunities

Where there isn’t a Post Office already but we know there’s customer demand .

Banking Hub

Apply to run counter services and operationally manage a Banking Hub. A Banking Hub is funded by the banking industry to support access to cash and banking and therefore operates under a different financial model.

There’s no need for a property or existing retail business. These will be in areas where there is a need for greater access to cash and banking services.

Community branch

If we advertise a community branch it comes with additional financial support.

Outreach and mobile Post Offices

More than 1500 remote communities get a part-time Post Office service and sometimes we advertise these, but you need to be operating a Post Office in the area to apply.
